Eisley at 5 monthsDear Eisley,

On December 30th you turned 5 months old.  We are continually amazed at your growth and the strides you make each and every day.  In the past month, lots of time has been spent in preparation for Christmas.  We went to the Christmas tree farm in Elgin with the Gath family and picked out your very first tree.  You picked out quite a large tree, but we didn’t realize that until we got home.  Okay, okay – you didn’t really pick it out.  Mommy and Daddy selected our tree, and it is apparent that we both need to work on our spatial awareness.  We can blame it on the fact that we are always busying ourselves with looking at your cute little face and everything else falls secondary.  We are so distracted by your cuteness in fact, that your Mommy and Daddy also forgot the tree was on top of the car when we pulled into the garage.  Silly parents!

We visited with many different family members during the holiday break and you were quite spoiled by everyone with the amount of attention and presents you received.  On Christmas morning Mommy and Daddy brought you downstairs and we opened gifts.  You got a panda that rocks like a rocking horse, and while we know you are a little small for it right now, we hope you will enjoy it in time.  It has been really special being able to spend our first Christmas with you and we look forward to creating many traditions together.

Earlier in the month Mommy had her birthday.  You and Daddy took me to dinner and we had a really nice time together.  It was such an important day because last year at this time you were just the tiniest little being in my belly.  Now you are here in the world making a difference in our lives, and we couldn’t be happier.  Thank you for being so wonderful just as you are, and for being the best present a mother could ever ask for.

Despite the busy nature of this time of year, you have managed to show us that you are determined to learn as much as you can, as often as you can.  Your hands are grasping your toys quite easily these days, and you have managed to roll over a few more times.  We think you have fully recognized Heidi now, and she sure must be funny.  You spend lots of time smiling and laughing at her when she is nearby.  Daddy has been reading to you ever since we brought you home from the hospital, and you are really starting to sit and look at the book in front of you.  One day, Mommy and Daddy look forward to listening to you read stories to us.

More than ever we are totally and completely in love with you.  You are an amazing little girl, and while we like to think we are teaching you things, you teach us so much more.  We love you dearly.
